Complaints highlight blackmail, extortion, and emotional manipulation, prompting filings with the airline and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh.

One victim, a businessman from Doha (DOH), met a flight attendant in October 2024, leading to financial losses and threats. Another from Dhaka (DAC) reported embezzlement under false marriage promises, escalating to a criminal case.

Biman Flight Attendants’ Romance Scam

Two close friends working as Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG) flight attendants stand accused of orchestrating a romance scam operation.

They allegedly lured affluent passengers, including executives and expats, using their positions to build trust.

Tactics included manipulating flight schedules to coincide with victims’ travel, extracting gifts, cash, and intimate media for later blackmail.

Reported by OMAAT, the scheme involved short-term relationships ending in abrupt ghosting after securing valuables like an iPhone 16, diamond rings, and wedding funds totaling nearly $18,000.

Victim Experiences and Claims

The first complainant, a Qatar-based Bangladeshi businessman, encountered one attendant at a Doha luxury hotel in October 2024. She expressed interest in a serious relationship, joined him on beaches, and requested shopping sprees.

They traveled together on Biman business class flights from Doha (DOH) to Dhaka (DAC), with her allegedly adjusting rosters to match his itinerary.

On August 7, 2025, at a Dhaka hotel, she ended the romance, stating she avoids long-term commitments, then blocked him.

He claims she took gifts and now faces threats from her associate, “Ryan,” demanding silence.

The second victim, a Bangladeshi national, connected via Facebook and flew Biman business class repeatedly to meet the other attendant.

She promised marriage on his September 25 birthday, prompting him to provide a diamond ring and cover wedding costs. Demands escalated to gold, cash, and intimate photos, which she later used for blackmail after refusing to proceed.

He filed a criminal case on July 20, 2025, citing fraud that caused emotional, financial, and personal harm.

Potential Defenses and Implications

One accused attendant countered the Doha-based victim’s claims, stating he proposed first, and she ended contact due to his excessive drinking and erratic behavior.

This suggests possible mutual misunderstandings, though investigations continue. If proven, such actions exploit Biman’s reputation, turning cabin crew roles into tools for deception.

The airline should probe for patterns, as victims allege targeting professionals like doctors and executives.

Ethical Considerations

Scams undermine trust in aviation, and proven guilt warrants dismissal to protect passengers. Victims, often well-off businessmen, overlooked red flags like immediate gift demands or prepaid wedding requirements.

Personal accountability matters; early suspicions could prevent losses. Broader awareness of romance scams, especially in travel contexts, helps safeguard individuals.
