Singapore Airlines A350 Makes An Emergency Landing at Perth Airport

14 godzin temu

PERTH- A Singapore Airlines (SQ) flight from Brisbane (BNE) to Singapore (SIN) made an emergency landing in Perth (PER) following an in-flight engine issue on July 7, 2025. The aircraft, an Airbus A350, experienced a low-pressure alert on engine 1, prompting a controlled engine shutdown.

The crew executed standard safety procedures and diverted to Perth (PER) rather than continuing to Darwin (DRW) or nearby alternatives such as Broome (BME) or Denpasar (DPS), prioritizing engineering support and operational logistics.

Singapore Airlines A350 Emergency Landing

Singapore Airlines Flight SQ256, operated by a 5.5-year-old Airbus A350-900, registered as 9V-SHM, was en route from Brisbane (BNE) to Singapore (SIN) when the flight crew received a low-pressure warning related to engine 1.

Although the specific nature of the alert—whether fuel, hydraulic, or oil pressure—remains unconfirmed, the engine was shut down in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Despite being close to Broome (BME) and other potential alternates like Darwin (DRW) and Denpasar (DPS), the pilots elected to continue to Perth (PER), approximately 1,040 miles from the aircraft’s location at the time of the incident.

The decision is believed to have been influenced by Perth’s superior maintenance capabilities and logistical readiness for handling a widebody aircraft like the A350.

Diverting to Perth ensured that passengers could be transferred more efficiently and that the aircraft could receive immediate engineering support.

While Denpasar (DPS) is a regular A350 destination for multiple carriers, including Singapore Airlines, the flight’s routing over sparsely populated northern Australia may have limited viable options for emergency diversion.

Following the diversion, Singapore Airlines dispatched a replacement Airbus A350 (registered as 9V-SHP) to Perth (PER) as flight SQ9225.

Singapore Airlines’ replacement aircraft departed as flight SQ9224 at 4:40 p.m. local time on July 8. The flight is expected to arrive in Singapore at approximately 9:40 p.m. the same day.

While waiting in Perth, passengers were provided with food and beverages. A spokesperson for Singapore Airlines stated, “We are giving all necessary assistance to affected passengers, including rebooking connecting flights and arranging hotel accommodation in Singapore if needed.”

The airline also offered an apology: “Singapore Airlines sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused.”
