Sir Keir Starmer arrived at Copenhagen Airport on Wednesday ahead of the European Political Community summit on Thursday. The Prime Minister's visit comes as European leaders prepare to address escalating security concerns across the continent.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen declared that Europe is currently engaged in a "hybrid war" with Russia. She told reporters that the continent must arm itself against ongoing threats from Moscow.

Frederiksen said: "I hope that everybody recognises now that there is a hybrid war, and one day it's Poland, the other day it's Denmark, and next week it will probably be somewhere else that we see sabotage or we see drones flying."

Security threats escalate

The EPC summit will focus on continental security with particular emphasis on strengthening Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia. European leaders have grown increasingly alarmed by violations of their airspace by unidentified drones and Russian warplanes in recent weeks.

Several Russian drones breached Poland's airspace on 10th September, prompting NATO aircraft to scramble and shoot down some of the devices. Since then, Denmark has experienced a series of drone incidents at airports and military bases.

Denmark implements strict measures

Denmark has banned all civil drone flights during the summit, with violations punishable by fines or up to two years in prison. The Danish transport ministry said police were on "significantly increased alert" and needed to "take care of Danes and our guests".

The ban will remain in place until 3rd October. Late last month, European defence ministers agreed to develop a "drone wall" along borders with Russia and Ukraine to better detect and intercept airspace violations.

Summit brings together European leaders

Some 47 heads of state and government have been invited to participate in the seventh EPC meeting. Upon arrival, Starmer greeted British ambassador to Denmark Joelle Jenny, saying: "What a lovely day."
