ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) has announced changes to its summer 2025 routes, involving route cuts to Central America and route restorations on the West Coast.

In early May, Delta Air Lines will discontinue two routes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Central America. Simultaneously, the carrier will relaunch flights from LAX to Anchorage (ANC), Alaska, and restore service between Las Vegas and San Jose (SJC), California.

Delta Cuts Central America Routes

Delta Air Lines (DL) is ending non-stop flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to two Central American destinations.

  • San Salvador (SAL): The final LAX-SAL flight departs on May 4, 2025, with the return service concluding on May 5.
  • Guatemala City (GUA): The last southbound flight to GUA is scheduled for May 5, with the northbound service ending on May 6.

According to Delta, these changes are aimed at aligning capacity with demand while enhancing domestic route offerings from Los Angeles.

Despite Delta’s withdrawal, direct connections between LAX and these Central American destinations remain available through other carriers, according to TPG.

This includes Alaska Airlines (AS), Avianca (AV), United (UA), and Volaris (Y4) Costa Rica for Guatemala City and Avianca, United, and Volaris El Salvador for San Salvador.

Delta will continue to connect both San Salvador and Guatemala City via its hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

Delta New Seasonal Route to Anchorage

Delta Air Lines is set to reintroduce weekly nonstop flights between LAX and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) starting May 24, 2025.

  • Aircraft: Boeing 737-900ER, equipped with 20 first-class recliners and 27 Delta Comfort+ seats.
  • Schedule: Weekly flights will operate every Saturday through August 30, 2025, concluding on Labor Day weekend.

This service marks Delta’s return to the LAX-Anchorage route after a hiatus since 2021. The route will compete directly with Alaska Airlines.

Delta Restoring West Coast Routes

The Delta will also bring back its daily nonstop service between Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas and Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC).

  • Launch Date: June 8, 2025.
  • Aircraft: Embraer 175, offering 76 seats under Delta Connection branding.

Delta last operated this route in 2020. The resumed service adds to the competition, as Alaska, Frontier, Spirit, United, and Southwest Airlines already serve the LAS-SJC route.

Delta’s summer 2025 schedule changes illustrate its adaptability in responding to shifting passenger demand.

By cutting underperforming routes to Central America and focusing on seasonal domestic markets, the airline aims to optimize its network while maintaining competitive service.
