HONG KONG- The flag carrier of Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific Airways (CX) unveiled a new business class product known as the Aria Suites a few years ago.

The airline’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft equipped with first class cabins are due to undergo a retrofit until the end of 2027 with the first of those airplanes now in operation having successfully been revamped in 2024.

Cathay Pacific Aria Suites to London

Initially, Cathay Pacific utilized its first Aria Suites aircraft, B-KPO, for short-haul routes within Asia having flown to cities like Beijing, Taipei, and Tokyo-Narita. Recently, the latest product also graced Cathay’s incredibly busy and competitive route to Singapore’s Changi Airport (SIN). It has been understood that long-haul flights of the Aria Suites have also begun of late.

Cathay Pacific began operating the Aria Suites to London’s Heathrow Airport last week on a rotational basis. Starting from February 1st, CX255 and CX250 will operate to one of the world’s busiest airports daily with CX’s new flagship product. The flight timings are as below:

  • CX 251 – HKG to LHR – 22:55 – 05:30 (+1) – all timings are local.
  • CX 250 – LHR to HKG – 17:50 – 14:35 (+1) – all timings are local.

There are up to seven daily flights between Hong Kong Airport and London Heathrow Airport, six of which are operated by Cathay Pacific Airways and one by British Airways. CX’s other aircraft flying to LHR are Airbus A350-900 and Airbus A350-1000.

Considering the competition and payload in the sector, London was imminently going to be named as one of the first long-haul routes to receive daily Aria Suites services.

Where Next?

Cathay Pacific is anticipating the completion of one Boeing 777-300ER per month in its retrofit. Though the airline’s plans of introducing the Aria Suites product were derailed by the pandemic, things are rapidly gathering pace for the Oneworld carrier once more and its expected rate of rebuilding its fleet is on track.

In October, B-KPO was the first 77W to go through an overhaul, and recently, B-KPF became the second airframe to adorn the Aria Suites. That airplane is also in service now having flown to both, London and Singapore, in the last week or so. Cathay’s third 777, B-KQH, has also returned from its retrofitting session in Xiamen and will imminently be pushed into service.

Currently, Cathay Pacific’s busiest 777 routes include Brisbane, Dubai, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Milan-Malpensa, Mumbai, New Delhi, New York-JFK, Sydney, Tokyo (Haneda and Narita), and Vancouver – so it is fair to assume that the next medium or long haul destination to receive the new product might be among those.

There is heavy speculation around Sydney receiving the Aria Suites but one cannot rule out Los Angeles either given that there are up to three daily Cathay Pacific flights to the city.
