BUDAPEST- Wizz Air (W6) will launch direct flights between Budapest (BUD) and Mumbai (BOM) this year with the A321 fleet, operating seven days a week, enhancing connectivity between Hungary and India. This development comes ahead of planned connections between the Hungarian and Indian capitals.

Following ministerial discussions in New Delhi, Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that all agreements have been finalized to enable these direct flights, addressing a key obstacle in bilateral relations.

Wizz Air Mumbai Flights

Wizz Air’s (W6) new direct service between Budapest and Mumbai is set to operate daily, eliminating a long-standing barrier to closer economic and cultural exchanges. The flight is likely to be operated by the World’s longest-range narrowbody jet, Airbus A321XLR.

The announcement follows discussions in New Delhi between Hungarian and Indian government officials, focusing on enhancing trade and cooperation.

Minister Szijjártó emphasized that direct air links will significantly boost business, academic exchanges, and tourism.

He also noted that India, as the world’s most populous and rapidly developing nation, will soon be directly accessible from Hungary.

The Hungarian government is also negotiating an amendment to its aviation agreement with India to introduce a Budapest (BUD)-New Delhi (DEL) route, further enhancing connectivity. This step reflects a broader strategy to expand Hungary’s global economic partnerships.

Strengthening Economic Partnership

The establishment of direct flights is expected to accelerate trade between Hungary and India, which is already experiencing record growth.

Bilateral trade is projected to reach $1.5 billion this year, with more Hungarian companies expanding into the Indian market.

Hungarian businesses, such as Hell Energy, have gained a strong foothold in India, with the country becoming their second-largest export market.

Additionally, BHE Bonn Hungary has been supplying components for India’s defense and space programs for 25 years, underscoring long-standing industrial collaboration.

Major Indian corporations are also investing in Hungary, shifting from manufacturing to high-tech research and development, creating opportunities for Hungarian engineers and researchers. These investments align with Hungary’s vision of fostering innovation-driven economic growth.

Beyond economic benefits, the new air link will strengthen diplomatic relations and cultural exchanges.

Direct flights will make travel more convenient for students, business professionals, and tourists, reinforcing people-to-people connections.

Hungary and India have developed a strong partnership based on mutual respect and national interests.

This growing cooperation is evident in sectors such as technology, healthcare, and infrastructure, where both nations continue to find synergies.

The introduction of direct flights marks a milestone in this evolving relationship, paving the way for deeper engagement and mutual growth in various fields.
