HANOI- Vietnamese flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines (VN) is exploring possibilities to fly to various new international destinations. To expand its global reach, the airline is planning to launch flights to Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Asia.
Vietnam Airlines right now flies to 5 European cities, 3 Australian cities, and 1 city in the United States. The airline also flies to 2 South Asian cities.
Vietnam Airlines International Expansion
Vietnam Airlines currently operates non-stop flights on 91 routes. This consists of 34 domestic and 57 International routes. The airline connects Vietnam with 54 destinations worldwide. The airline carried 24.1 million passengers and 230,000 tonnes of cargo in 2024.
Europe
Vietnam Airlines is now exploring Copenhagen (CPH) in Denmark as a potential destination in Europe. The airline already flies to five destinations in Europe. The airline operates a maximum of Europe flights from Hanoi.
Hanoi sees flights to London (LHR) 3 times a week with Boeing B787, Paris (CDG) 4 times a week with Airbus A350-900, Frankfurt (FRA) 5 times a week with Boeing 787, and Munich 2 times a week with Boeing 787.
Vietnam Airlines recently announced plans to launch Milan (MXP) 3 times a week with Boeing B787 from Hanoi starting July 2025. The new route being explored in Europe is the 6th European destination for the airline.
The airline flies to four cities in Europe from Ho Chi Minh City to London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Munich.
Australia
Vietnam Airlines currently has a good operating capacity in Australia. The airline flies to Sydney (SYD), and Melbourne (MEL) daily and three times a week to Perth (PER) from Ho Chi Minh. The airline also flies from Hanoi to Sydney and Melbourne 3 times a week to each.
Vietnam Airlines is exploring Darwin (DRW) as a potential new destination in Australia. Darwin is the 4th Australian city the airline is looking at.
North America
Vietnam Airlines currently flies to their sole USA destination three times weekly. The airline flies to San Francisco (SFO) from Ho Chi Minh City using Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
Los Angeles (LAX) and Seattle (SEA) are the two destinations the airline is exploring to launch flights to.
The airline is also evaluating the launch flights to Vancouver (YVR), marking the airline’s first-ever interest in Canada.
Asia
Vietnam Airlines is looking at three new destinations in Asia. Dubai (DXB) in the United Arab Emirates, Bangalore (BLR) in India, and Dhaka (DAC) in Bangladesh.
This is the first time the airline is looking to expand into Bangladesh and the Middle East. India already sees flights by Vietnam Airlines to Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM).
India is also a potential market for Vietnam Airlines. This is indicative by the fact that the airline is looking to operate widebody Airbus A350-900/Boeing 787-9 aircraft on its routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Mumbai. Delhi already sees widebody airplanes. Following this success, the airline might be looking to expand in India.
Routes Launched in 2024
In 2024, Vietnam Airlines added new routes to Europe and Southeast Asia. They also added domestic routes to strengthen their regional presence.
The airline added Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh to Munich (MUC) in Germany, Hanoi to Phnom Penh in Cambodia, and Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) in Malaysia.
The airline also expanded the domestic flights with new flights to Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot, and Can Tho from Da Nang (DAD).
