LOS ANGELES- In the ever-evolving world of airline schedules, United Airlines (UA) has made some significant changes to its long-haul routes from Los Angeles (LAX) for the upcoming winter season of 2024/2025.
These updates bring both cancellations and adjustments to various destinations, including Los Angeles to Auckland and Brisbane. Let’s dive into the details.
United Cuts Some Los Angeles Routes
One of the most notable changes reported by Ishrion Aviation is the cancellation of the Los Angeles (LAX) to Auckland (AKL) and Los Angeles (LAX) to Brisbane (BNE) routes. These routes, which were launched just last winter, will no longer be in operation for the upcoming winter season.
Currently, United serves the Los Angeles-Auckland route as a codeshare with Air New Zealand (NZ).
Now Question arises Why did United decide to cancel the Los Angeles to Auckland and Brisbane routes?
United is likely reallocating its resources to more profitable routes due to the increasing competition in the Australian and New Zealand markets.
To compensate for the lost capacity on the Los Angeles to Brisbane route, United will be up-gauging its San Francisco (SFO) to Brisbane (BNE) flights.
The airline plans to replace the 257-seat 787-9 aircraft with the 350-seat 777-300ER between December 19 and March 7. Outside of this period, the 777-200ER will be operated on the SFO-BNE route.
Other Route Updates
In a positive development for travelers, United has extended its Newark (EWR) to Tenerife (TFS) route from seasonal to year-round service. This change offers more options for passengers looking to explore the Canary Islands from the United States.
On the flip side, United has reduced its Newark (EWR) to Paris (CDG) flights for the upcoming winter season. This adjustment may impact travelers flying between these two major cities during the colder months.
Previously reported Changes
Last week, we reported that United has updated its schedule and made the following changes:
- United Airlines will commence Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO)-Washington Dulles (IAD) service in October 2024.
- In September, UA will start the Greenville–Spartanburg International Airport (GSP)-IAD service.
- UA will operate one flight in August on the Houston (IAH)-South Dakota (RAP) route.
- UA will fly the RAP-San Francisco (SFO) service starting August 2024.
- UA will remove the Bangor (BGR)-Chicago (ORD) service, initially loaded for Fall/Winter, which is now assumed to return seasonally.
