Two Women Arrested on Cathay Pacific Flight

The confrontation occurred aboard Cathay Pacific (CX) flight CX581, which arrived in Hong Kong (HKG) from Sapporo (CTS) on Monday night.

According to police reports, the dispute began when a 60-year-old mainland Chinese passenger, surnamed Zhang, traveling with a three-year-old child, became agitated when the child started crying.

A 32-year-old Hong Kong resident surnamed Tsui, seated behind Zhang, responded by throwing a water bottle at her, igniting the conflict.

Efforts to de-escalate the situation were unsuccessful. A flight attendant attempted to mediate but was unable to prevent the altercation.

During the scuffle, Tsui threw a cushion that struck Zhang’s upper body, prompting Zhang to retaliate with another cushion.

The incident was reported to the police at around 9:40 PM, shortly after the flight landed at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). Officers arrived to address the situation and arrested both women on suspicion of violating the Aviation Security Ordinance.

The case was handed over to the airport police for further investigation. Authorities have emphasized the seriousness of disruptive behavior on flights, citing potential risks to passenger safety and overall flight operations.

In-Flight Injuries Conflict

The physical altercation resulted in minor injuries to both women. Tsui sustained scrapes and bruises on her hands and wrists, while Zhang reported discomfort in her chest.

However, both individuals declined medical treatment after the incident.

This incident underscores the critical importance of maintaining composure during flights and the potential legal consequences of unruly behavior.

Airlines and authorities continue to stress adherence to aviation safety regulations to prevent similar occurrences.

Similar Incident

A bomb-related jest by two female passengers disrupted Vistara flight UK975 from Delhi to Mumbai on March 29, 2024, resulting in their detention and a two-hour flight delay. The incident began when a passenger requested to disembark after learning about his father’s stroke, initiating standard baggage reconciliation procedures.

During the security check of cabin bags, one woman made inappropriate comments about bomb presence to airline security personnel. Despite warnings, both women continued their disruptive behavior, including making similar remarks during a video call. Another passenger’s complaint about their conduct prompted the pilot to implement mandatory bomb threat protocols.

Security agencies Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) intervened, removing both women and their checked baggage from the aircraft. The aviation authorities transferred the passengers to security personnel for further investigation.

The incident delayed flight UK975’s departure until 7:47 am, significantly impacting the scheduled service. Vistara officials emphasize the serious nature of bomb-related comments in aviation settings, regardless of intent. The case highlights strict enforcement of aviation security protocols and consequences for violating these regulations.
