MANCHESTER- A TUI holiday jet (BY) was forced to return to Manchester Airport (MAN) for an emergency landing shortly after takeoff on March 27, 2025. Fire crews responded as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed safely with one deflated tyre.

All passengers were disembarked without incident, and the aircraft later resumed its journey to Jamaica.

TUI Flight Emergency Landing

The TUI flight BY138 to Montego Bay, Jamaica, departed Manchester Airport (MAN) at 9:38 AM on Wednesday.

While flying over the Irish Sea, the crew detected a technical issue. The captain opted to return to Manchester Airport for safety.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner maintained a holding pattern over the Irish Sea before landing safely at 11:24 AM Images from Flightradar24 confirmed the jet’s return.

Photos showed one deflated tyre, but the aircraft successfully taxied to the terminal for passenger disembarkation, Manchester Evening News Reported.

A Manchester Airport spokesperson confirmed the emergency landing was due to a technical issue but emphasized that such operations are standard procedures. The jet later resumed its scheduled nine-hour flight to Jamaica without further problems.

United Airlines flight UA147 departed from London at 15:44 UTC. Shortly after reaching 18,000 feet, the crew reported mechanical issues. By 15:53 UTC, the crew declared an emergency and returned to Heathrow, landing safely at 16:38 UTC.

The aircraft carried 70 passengers and 11 crew members. Aviation news sources cited hydraulic system complications affecting flap operations, while others mentioned possible engine issues. United Airlines confirmed only a mechanical problem.

The flight was operated by a Boeing 767-322ER, registered as N665UA, a 26.7-year-old aircraft powered by PW4060 turbofan engines. United’s aging transatlantic fleet is set to be replaced by Boeing 787s in the coming years.

Despite recent incidents, TUI aircraft have consistently demonstrated safety-first protocols. Emergency landings and diversions are precautionary measures designed to protect passengers and crew.
