On April 3, 2024, a Spirit Airlines A320neo was ferried from Mobile International Airport (BFM) to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) for delivery, and it commenced service on April 7, 2024.

As of May 2024, the N992NK operates around 5 flights a day.

In April 2024, Spirit Airlines announced an agreement with Airbus to postpone the delivery of all aircraft orders originally set for the second quarter of 2025 until the end of 2026, now slated for delivery between 2030 and 2031.

However, this deferment excludes direct-lease aircraft scheduled for delivery during this period, with one each expected in the second and third quarters of 2025. This arrangement with Airbus is projected to enhance Spirit’s liquidity by approximately $340 million over the next two years.

Aircraft orders with Airbus planned for delivery between 2027 and 2029 remain unchanged.

Due to aircraft grounded due to Pratt & Whitney GTF engine availability issues, alongside the deferment of 2025 and 2026 aircraft deliveries, Spirit has announced its intention to furlough around 260 pilots effective September 1, 2024.

In recent news, Spirit has entered into a compensation agreement with Pratt & Whitney concerning its GTF engines, with estimated liquidity improvements ranging between $150 million and $200 million throughout the agreement’s term.

Additionally, Spirit will continue assessing the utilization of its current financeable asset base to bolster liquidity in the upcoming months.
