Singapore Airlines’ New Safety Video

Singapore Airlines (SQ) has reimagined its in-flight safety video, transforming a routine briefing into a cinematic celebration of Singapore’s heritage.

Launched on September 4, 2025, in partnership with the Singapore Tourism Board, the video takes viewers on a visually captivating journey through Singapore’s iconic landmarks, from the lush Cloud Forest at Gardens by the Bay to the bustling Lau Pa Sat hawker centre.

The film, titled “Welcome on Board,” creatively integrates essential safety instructions with scenes of local culture, featuring real Singapore Airlines cabin crewSingapore Airlines Cabin Crew members, including both male and female presenters, for a more inclusive approach.

This marks the first update to the airline’s safety video since 2017, replacing the familiar presentation led by flight stewardess Elizabeth Quek.

The video employs a unique blend of real life footage and watercolour effects, inspired by Singapore’s vibrant mural art scene, which reflects the city’s history and multicultural identity. Each scene is meticulously designed to convey critical safety messages while immersing viewers in Singapore’s diverse communities.

For example, at Jurong Lake Gardens, a lion dance troupe demonstrates take-off and landing procedures, such as securing tray tables and positioning seats upright.

At a Housing Board flat, a family enjoying durians illustrates the proper use of oxygen masks, adding a playful nod to local cuisine.

Other locations, including Tanjong Beach on Sentosa and the Esplanade, highlight Singapore’s blend of modernity and tradition, culminating in a stunning aerial view of the city’s night skyline.

Engagement and Safety Messaging

The video’s strength lies in its collaboration with local communities, who bring authenticity and cultural depth to the safety demonstrations.

Groups such as kolam artists, silat practitioners, and an aqua aerobics team creatively illustrate procedures like identifying emergency exits, adopting the brace position, and using life vests.

For instance, kolam artists use colored rice flour to depict emergency exits, while silat practitioners demonstrate the brace position with martial arts precision.

This approach not only makes the safety instructions memorable but also celebrates Singapore’s multicultural fabric, aligning with the airline’s goal to evoke a sense of home for residents and inspire visitors.

Vinod Kannan, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing at Singapore Airlines (SQ), emphasized that safety remains the airline’s top priority.

“Each scene was carefully designed to reinforce essential safety messages while showcasing Singapore’s vibrant and diverse cultures, sights, and communities,” he said.

Strategic Partnership with Tourism Board

The collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) underscores the video’s dual purpose: ensuring passenger safety while promoting Singapore (SIN) as a premier travel destination.

Kenneth Lim, STB’s Marketing Group Assistant Chief Executive, noted that the partnership allows Singapore’s distinct character to reach millions of travelers worldwide, reinforcing its appeal for both business and leisure.

The video is part of a broader strategy to highlight Singapore’s cultural and artistic landscape, building on previous STB initiatives like the 2025 collaboration with K-pop artist JISOO to showcase Mandai Wildlife Reserve.

Available on Singapore Airlines’ social media channels, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, and YouTube, since September 4, 2025, the video will progressively roll out across all Singapore Airlines (SQ) flights from late October 2025.

This strategic release ensures passengers experience Singapore’s charm before landing at Changi Airport, enhancing their travel experience.
