Singapore Airlines Flight to London Makes Emergency Landing in Munich

LONDON- Singaporean flag carrier, Singapore Airlines (SQ) flight from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to London Heathrow (LHR) made an emergency landing due to a medical complication in Munich (MUC) on January 22, 2025.

As per the schedule. Singapore Airlines operates multiple (4-5 daily) flights between Lion City and London.

Singapore Airlines Emergency Landing

According to Flight Radar 24 data, Singapore Airlines flight SQ306 took off from Singapore at 5:33 PM UTC.

After being airborne for almost 12 hours and at FL360 (36,000 feet) the crew reported a medical issue with one of the passengers. At that point, the flight was flying to Czechia.

To better assist the passenger, the flight crew decided to make an emergency landing in Munich, Germany. The flight landed safely at 6:11 AM UTC.

The ground crew was alerted by the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and was told to respond quickly as soon as the plane landed in Munich. The passenger was provided with health care service.

The aircraft remained on the ground for approximately two hours and it took off again at 8:05 AM UTC and landed safely at London Heathrow at 9:36 AM UTC.

The flight was operated by a 10.3-year-old Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, registered as 9V-SWY.

A Tata Group-owned Air India flight AI106 executed an unscheduled landing due to a medical emergency at Moscow Zhukovsky Airport during its Newark to Delhi service, adding to the carrier’s growing list of Russian diversions. The incident occurred on November 30, 2024, while the aircraft traversed Russian airspace.

Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 shows AI106 departed Newark at 4:25 PM UTC. The aircraft diverted near the Kama River region of Russia after approximately nine hours of flight time, touching down at Moscow Zhukovsky Airport at 2:07 AM UTC. Moscow Zhukovsky serves as one of four operational airports in the Russian capital.

This diversion coincides with other recent international flight disruptions. An Aeroflot Boeing 737 performed an emergency landing at Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport during its Moscow-Dubai service due to a passenger medical emergency. The Russian carrier maintains regular operations between Moscow Sheremetyevo and Dubai International Airport using both narrowbody and widebody aircraft.

In a separate incident, Aer Lingus redirected its Lisbon-Dublin flight to Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, also citing a medical emergency.
