LONDON- A dramatic incident unfolded at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) when a Saudia Airlines (SV) Boeing 787 aircraft was met by emergency responders after a passenger attacked a crew member and attempted to open the aircraft door, on August 28, 2025.

The flight, SV119, had arrived from Jeddah (JED) just before 1 pm local time, prompting immediate intervention by police and fire services.

Officials swiftly surrounded the plane as passengers disembarked, arresting the individual for endangering the aircraft. Onlookers watched fire trucks, police vehicles, and ambulances descend on the scene, while airport staff ensured other operations continued with minimal disruption.

Saudia Passenger Arrested at London

Flight SV119, operated by Saudia Airlines, encountered a serious security issue during its arrival at Heathrow Terminal 4.

A passenger reportedly argued with a crew member before striking them and attempting to open the jet door. Pilots immediately alerted emergency services as the aircraft taxied to its stand, preventing the situation from escalating further.

The Boeing 787, registered HZ-AR27, stopped promptly on the taxiway, allowing authorities to board quickly. Stairs were erected to give officials access to the cockpit, and the Met Police took control of the situation.

Sources described chaotic scenes on board, noting that families and other passengers were visibly shaken by the incident.

Emergency Response and Airport Operations

The response involved four fire trucks, six police vehicles, ambulances, and ground service units. Heathrow officials confirmed that despite the intensity of the operation, disruption to other flights and services remained minimal.

Emergency crews coordinated efficiently, ensuring both the safety of passengers and the restoration of normal airport operations.

Fire services confirmed their presence, and the police arrested the passenger for endangering an aircraft. The quick action by the crew and emergency teams prevented potential harm and maintained control of a situation that could have become significantly more dangerous.

Saudia Airlines maintains a fleet of 149 aircraft, including Boeing 787s, and operates regular flights to London from five Saudi cities: Jeddah (JED), Riyadh (RUH), Medina (MED), and Neom Bay (NUM).

The airline’s established UK route network emphasizes both business and leisure connectivity, making safety protocols and crew training a priority for all operations.

Flight and Passenger Safety Measures

This incident highlights the importance of rigorous in-flight safety protocols and the preparedness of emergency teams at major international airports.

Crew members are trained to manage passenger conflicts, and airports like Heathrow maintain rapid-response units ready to intervene in cases of onboard disturbances.

Passengers are reminded to follow crew instructions and maintain calm during disembarkation procedures. Airlines continuously review safety protocols to prevent similar events and ensure secure operations for all flights.

Similar Incident

A Ryanair (FR) flight to Agadir-Al Massira Airport (AGA) was forced to return shortly after departure when a passenger allegedly tried to open an emergency exit on August 25, 2025.

The Boeing 737-800 landed back at Manchester Airport (MAN), where Greater Manchester Police (GMP) arrested the passenger. The aircraft was later inspected and cleared before resuming its journey to Morocco.

Ryanair flight RK1266 departed from Manchester Airport (MAN) at around 9:20 a.m., bound for Agadir (AGA). Soon after takeoff, a passenger seated in an emergency exit row reportedly attempted to tamper with the door.

Other passengers intervened and alerted the cabin crew. The individual was quickly moved from the emergency exit area, while the captain took a position near the door to monitor the situation during the return.

The aircraft landed safely at Manchester at 10:09 a.m., just over an hour after departure. GMP confirmed that a woman was taken into custody immediately after landing.

Police Response and Aircraft Safety Checks

Law enforcement officers boarded the aircraft upon arrival and escorted the passenger off the plane without further incident. Authorities have not released details about the individual or potential charges.

Ryanair engineers carried out inspections on the emergency exit door before the aircraft was cleared for departure. Witnesses said minor plastic fittings were replaced as part of the checks.

Attempts to interfere with an emergency exit are treated as serious aviation security threats. While it is impossible to open such doors at cruising altitude due to cabin pressure, tampering during flight can cause diversions and legal consequences.
