The Prince of Wales clapped and cheered as the Lionesses thrashed the Netherlands 4-0 on Wednesday to keep their Women's Euro 2025 dream alive. William was seen celebrating from the stands at Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich as England dominated their European Championship group D match.

The future king stood to sing the national anthem and was spotted chatting to those sitting near him during the crucial fixture. He also spoke to Frank Paauw, the president of the Royal Netherlands Football Association, as the teams battled for qualification.

William watches Lauren James strike

William applauded enthusiastically as Lauren James found the net within the first 25 minutes of the match. The prince followed the ball intently throughout the second half as the defending champions aimed to make up for their disappointing loss to France in their opening group match.

The Football Association's patron had wished the players good luck before the tournament began. He helped print names and numbers on their shirts when he presented match jerseys to the 23 squad members at St George's Park on 30th June.

Personal message to the squad

In a brief personal address to the players before the tournament, William said: "I just want to say the best of luck to all of you. I have seen a few of you and said that to your faces."

He acknowledged the mix of experience within the squad, adding: "I know there is a good mixture of those who have been and done a few tournaments before and those whose first tournament it is." The prince has been a longtime supporter of the Lionesses throughout their recent success.

Royal support continues tradition

William presented the trophy to the team at Wembley Stadium when they won the last Euros in 2022. However, he apologised for not making it to Australia to watch them in the Women's World Cup final in 2023.
