KARACHI- Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is resuming direct flights to the United Kingdom (UK). This development follows a scheduled audit by the UK’s Department for Transport, aimed at assessing Pakistan’s aviation standards.

The audit is critical for lifting the ban imposed on PIA in 2020, allowing the airline to reestablish its presence in key international markets.

Pakistan Airlines to Resume UK Flights

A seven-member team from the UK’s Department for Transport arrived in Pakistan on January 27, 2025, to commence an audit of the country’s aviation framework.

The evaluation, set to run until February 6, will examine pivotal areas such as licensing protocols, airworthiness of aircraft, flight standards, and overall aviation safety measures.

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) Director General, Nadir Shafi Dar, expressed confidence in the nation’s preparedness.

“We are ready to provide a comprehensive overview of the audit process,” he remarked. Extensive arrangements have been made to facilitate the audit, with PCAA staff working on a weekend to ensure seamless operations.

The outcome of this inspection could pave the way for the reinstatement of direct PIA flights to the UK, a crucial link for the airline and its passengers.

The ban, originally imposed due to safety concerns, has significantly affected PIA’s operations and revenue.

PIA Strategy for Global Market

In December 2024, the European Union lifted its ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), enabling PIA to resume flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).
