LONDON- A medical emergency aboard Jet2 (LS) flight LS676 culminated in a passenger’s death during a routine journey from Tenerife (TFS) to Nottingham (EMA).

The aircraft executed an emergency landing at Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport (SCQ) in Spain’s Galician capital on Friday afternoon (February 14, 2025).

Jet2 Passenger Dies

The flight crew alerted air traffic control about a severe medical situation involving a male passenger in his seventies, necessitating an immediate diversion to mainland Spain.

Despite emergency response preparations, including an ambulance stationed at the terminal, medical personnel pronounced the passenger deceased upon the aircraft’s landing.

The flight had departed from the Canary Islands at 7:05 PM before the emergency developed, as reported by local news source Diario de Avisos.

Officials have not yet disclosed the deceased passenger’s nationality, and both Jet2 and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office remain pending comment on the incident.

This event follows another recent aviation emergency involving an easyJet (U2) flight to Manchester. In that incident, the pilot’s collapse at the controls forced an emergency landing in Greece. The situation sparked panic among passengers as cabin crew members abandoned their service duties and rushed to the cockpit while calling for medical assistance.

Similar Incidents

A series of fatal incidents aboard Jet2 flights has highlighted the challenges of managing medical emergencies at altitude. The tragedy occurred on Flight LS3214 from Bourgas to Liverpool on September 16, 2024, when a male passenger experienced cardiac arrest shortly after departure.

The flight crew diverted to Cologne, Germany, where medical teams confirmed the passenger’s death upon landing. The aircraft remained grounded for several hours at a remote section of the runway while authorities managed the situation.

This incident follows a similar tragedy on January 2, 2024, when crew members discovered a deceased passenger in the aircraft lavatory during Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester. The discovery prompted an emergency landing in Cork, Ireland.

Fellow passengers criticized the crew’s initial response, with one stating to the Mirror, “My husband reported someone had been in the toilet a long time, and he thought he was dead. Tragically, he was right. He informed the crew who were dismissive towards him.”

Jet2 addressed the Cork incident through a spokesperson, confirming that their crew intervened upon becoming aware of the situation, though their efforts proved unsuccessful.

An earlier incident on April 2, 2023, involved Flight LS756 from Tenerife to Manchester. The aircraft diverted to Cornwall Airport Newquay after a female passenger required urgent medical attention approximately three hours into the journey.
