TOKYO- Japan Airlines (JL) reveals extensive network expansion and fleet modernization plans in its fiscal year 2025 summer schedule, introducing new routes and increased frequencies across international markets.
The airline launches a strategic Tokyo Narita (NRT)-Chicago (ORD) service on May 31, strengthening its North American network while facilitating connections between Southeast Asia, India, and North America. This route operates under a codeshare agreement with American Airlines, featuring arrival in Chicago at 15:45 and departure at 12:10 between September 1 and October 25, 2025.

Japan Transocean Air marks its international debut with a new Naha-Taipei route, targeting growing inbound tourism demand. The airline plans to announce specific launch dates for this service within the fiscal year 2025.
Network frequency enhancements respond to high market demand, with Narita-San Diego and Narita-Bengaluru routes increasing to daily operations from March 30 to October 25.
The Kansai-Los Angeles, Kansai-Honolulu, and Chubu-Honolulu routes also upgrade to daily service from July 18 to October 25. Narita-Honolulu service doubles to twice-daily operations throughout July 2025.
Fleet modernization advances with the Airbus A350-1000 deployment on the Haneda-Paris route beginning May 1, 2025, initially operating alternate days. The aircraft type extends to the Los Angeles route during the summer schedule, with specific dates pending announcement.
Japan Airlines strengthens its presence in the U.S. market through a December 2024 partnership with Major League Baseball, developing sports tourism initiatives to boost transpacific travel demand.
The airline plans to release its flight frequency schedule for the second half of fiscal year 2025 in a separate announcement, with winter schedule details becoming available in the reservation system by late June 2025.
Domestic Flights
Japan Airlines enhances its domestic network capacity through strategic route expansions and aircraft upgrades for the 2025 summer schedule.
The Osaka Itami-Misawa service doubles to twice-daily operations from March 30, expanding regional connectivity. Seasonal demand prompts a temporary increase on the Osaka Itami-Sapporo New Chitose route to five daily flights from June 1.
Aircraft upgrades target popular tourism routes, with the Boeing 787-8 deploying on the Tokyo Haneda-Miyako route throughout August 2025, marking the aircraft’s debut on this service. The same aircraft type continues operations on the Tokyo Haneda-Ishigaki route during August, maintaining enhanced capacity.
Premium service expansion includes the introduction of JAL First Class on the Tokyo Haneda-Miyako route, available exclusively on aircraft equipped with first-class cabins. Ticket sales commence January 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM, though some services face limitations at Miyako Airport.
Fleet modernization continues with the integration of Airbus A350 aircraft across the domestic network, emphasizing passenger comfort and environmental sustainability. This initiative aligns with JAL’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact while enhancing the travel experience.
