GURUGRAM- India’s largest low-cost carrier (LCC), IndiGo Airlines (6E) is planning to enter the Europe market by launching non-stop flights from Delhi (DEL) to Manchester (MAN) in the United Kingdom.

This marks an important milestone for IndiGo as the airline enters the European market for the first time in its operational history.

IndiGo Europe Flights

IndiGo now seems to be developing its international network to provide direct and smooth connectivity to Europe without compromising the low-cost structure. This is intended to meet ever-increasing travel demand and make Itself a key player in the long-haul low-budget aviation category.

IndiGo (6E) has plans to make a historic move by launching its first-ever non-stop flight to Europe, connecting Delhi (DEL) with Manchester (MAN). The flights are planned to be operated daily.

Subject to the successful execution of its plans, IndiGo will launch these daily flights starting from 1st July 2025.

As per the current filing, the airline has already secured the required slots to operate these flights. From the available information, IndiGo (6E) is planning to operate flights to and from Manchester with a convenient morning schedule.

Flight 6E31 will arrive in Manchester at 07:55 am GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). The return flight, 6E32, will depart from Manchester at 10:55 am GMT.

Interestingly, IndiGo has filed this route with the Boeing 787-9s. The route, if finalized, will strengthen connectivity and provide a cost-effective travel option for passengers flying between India and the United Kingdom.

Growing IndiGo Fleet

Just barely a few weeks past in the new year and IndiGo (6E) has shown the intention to wet-lease the 787-9s from Norse Atlantic Airways (N0). The deal will likely be closed by February 2025.

It was expected that IndiGo (6E) would initially induct two 787-9s. Four more 787-9s were expected to join the airline’s fleet by September 2025. In total, six 787-9s were to be in the IndiGo fleet by September 2025.

IndiGo Airlines has also requested Airbus to expedite the A350 deliveries which the airline has ordered. This shows that the airline is very keen to start the long-haul operations.

In light of this development, IndiGo (6E) has now filed for a flight to the United Kingdom. The airline has chosen to operate in Manchester (MAN) instead of the traditionally preferred destination of London.

Further, there might be a flight to London in the planning as well. Either to Heathrow (LHR) or Gatwick (LGW). Currently, the airline does operate Boeing 777 aircraft.

Does this Route Make Sense?

With IndiGo (6E) having ambitious plans to fly to Manchester (MAN), the demand from various cities of India to Manchester (MAN) is actually good.

  • Mumbai (BOM) stands as the largest market to Manchester from India. Mumbai (BOM) – Manchester (MAN) had approximately 69,000 passengers in 2023.
  • Delhi (DEL) is the 2nd largest market with approximately 57,000 passengers in 2023.

However, Delhi (DEL) is likely to get the flights to Manchester (MAN). This is probably the case because IndiGo’s largest base is in Delhi. The airline can effectively target passengers from other cities in the country and connect them via Delhi (DEL).

Manchester marks a bold step for IndiGo, showcasing the airline’s ambition to expand its horizons into Europe. If successful, this move could pave the way for further routes in the region. London could be the very next destination.
