BENGALURU- India’s largest LCC, IndiGo Airlines (6E), operates the largest number of flights in India, no two ways about it. IndiGo operates over 2,200 flights a day, holding 60% of the domestic market. The airline links 91 cities with a fleet pushing 400 planes.
That’s a lot of airplanes. But how are they utilizing them and where? Each and every Indian airport, doesn’t matter Major or other Tier-II or Tier-III airport, feels like IndiGo’s backyard.

IndiGo Busiest Domestic Routes
Here are IndiGo’s top 10 domestic routes from the upcoming summer season, based on passenger numbers and flight counts. The below data just shows how much Indian airports lean on those blue-tailed planes.
1. Delhi-Mumbai
The Delhi-Mumbai route is the busiest one. This route is aspired by every airline to fly on. The airline has a huge share in the sector. IndiGo operates about 20 flights a day one-way—sometimes even more. Over 2 million people are flying in this sector annually.
IndiGo operates its brand-new A321neos in all 20 daily flights in this sector. The new A321neos of IndiGo are configured with Business class seats. Those big birds have 220 seats. Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport are both one of the airline’s largest hubs. Delhi-Mumbai is a 2-hour long flight, connecting India’s capital with the financial hub.
2. Delhi-Bengaluru
Next up is the Delhi-Bengaluru route, which is the airline’s 2nd largest route. This sector is also one of the largest by passenger numbers, with close to 2 million passengers a year. IndiGo operates around 15 daily one-way flights or 30 daily flights in the sector.
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda Airport is one of the major hubs for IndiGo. The airline recently upgraded all of the Bengaluru-Delhi flights to A321neos with the Stretch product.
As per the reports, IndiGo is even tweaking schedules to catch early-morning travelers from other competitors like Air India and Air India Express. This actually makes sense, as 60% of business travelers prefer a morning departure from their origin.
3. Mumbai-Bengaluru
Mumbai to Bengaluru’s the third leg of India’s golden triangle, and it’s a beast. Probably 1.5 million passengers a year, give or take. It’s a quick 90-minute jaunt, but don’t let that fool you—planes are packed with finance hotshots from Mumbai and tech nerds from Bengaluru swapping notes. I
ndiGo has got this one dialed in, flying it so often you’d think it’s a shuttle. They’ve even rolled out their new IndiGoStretch business-class seats here, which says a lot—this route’s got premium written all over it.
Mumbai’s airport can be a headache with delays, but IndiGo’s on-time game is strong, and Bengaluru’s terminal is a breeze by comparison. It’s short, sweet, and nonstop.
4. Delhi-Hyderabad
Hyderabad has been growing by a huge percentage, and the Delhi-Hyderabad sector shows why. Until a few months ago, there weren’t as many flights between Delhi and Hyderabad as there are now.
IndiGo operates 12 daily one-way flights between Hyderabad and Delhi. There are about a million passengers a year traveling annually in this sector, fueled by the city’s tech and pharma boom. IndiGo has a wild market share in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The airline has 65% of the flights from Hyderabad. IndiGo has this route humming with daily options and is a 2-hour long flight.

5. Bengaluru-Hyderabad
On the 5th number come the two South Indian cities, which I often refer to as South India’s tech twins—Bengaluru and Hyderabad. This keeps the route in high demand year-round.
As per the reports, there are about 800,000 passengers a year who are traveling in the sector. The numbers are very close to reaching a million, and the sector is growing with a healthy percentage as well.
Bengaluru – Hyderabad is just a short 1-hour hop, and there is literally no airline who could compete with IndiGo in the sector. Many travelers take this flight just for a meeting and return the same day. That’s how tight these cities are tied.
6. Delhi-Kolkata
Delhi – Kolkata’s comes next. This sector sees about a million passengers a year. The sector includes mostly business-related or families visiting and tourists visiting the city.
IndiGo operates about 11 daily flights in this sector, and the flights spike up during Durga Puja. It is roughly a 2-hour long flight between Kolkata and Delhi.
7. Bengaluru-Kolkata
The Bengaluru and Kolkata sectors are another climber route for IndiGo, with approximately 800,000 passengers traveling on this route each year. It is a 2-and-a-half-hour flight connecting India’s tech hub with Kolkata. IndiGo has a stronghold in this sector. The airline will fly 10 times a day, down from 11 in the winter season. However, this route will remain one of the airline’s largest sectors.

8. Delhi-Chennai
Delhi to Chennai comes in at 8th position. The sector sees around 800,000 passengers a year. It’s a 2.5-hour flight with a mix of business folks, tourists, and diaspora heading home. IndiGo flies in this sector with a frequency of 10 flights a day.
9. Chennai-Hyderabad
Next comes another one from down south, Chennai to Hyderabad, also a quiet giant with 600,000 passengers yearly. IndiGo has a large share at Chennai airport as well, with 60% of the market share.
IndiGo operates 10 daily flights between Hyderabad and Chennai. It’s a 1-hour flight tying Chennai’s old-school industry to Hyderabad’s shiny tech parks
10. Mumbai-Hyderabad
Wrapping it up, Mumbai to Hyderabad is the 10th largest. The sector sees around the same number of travelers as Chennai – Hyderabad with approximately 600,000 passengers a year.
It is a 1-hour flight, but IndiGo is flying 10 times a day on this route. Mumbai’s chaos is old news and seems to be the reason why its limiting IndiGo to add more flights.

Why These Routes Rule?
IndiGo’s top 10 domestic routes form the backbone of India’s aviation landscape. Especially, the Delhi-Mumbai-Bengaluru triangle is a cash cow, driving a significant share of business and tech-related travel.
However, the growing prominence of Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata adds depth to this network. IndiGo has optimized its operations in such a way that it ensures frequent flights, competitive fares, and seamless connectivity.
With a modern fleet of A320s and A321s and well-coordinated airport operations, the airline has built an extensive domestic reach. As new airports like Jewar and Navi Mumbai come online in 2025, IndiGo’s dominance may evolve.
