The Airbus A330-200 had just departed for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) when crew detected smoke from the port-side engine, prompting immediate return.

The aircraft, carrying approximately 300 passengers, touched down safely at 2:03 pm after only 29 minutes airborne.

Hawaiian Airlines secured a replacement aircraft that departed at 7:50 pm, minimizing travel disruptions.

In another incident on December 30, 2024, Hawaiian Airlines Flight HA21 operated by an Airbus A330-243 made an emergency return to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) shortly after takeoff.

The flight crew reported smoke in the cockpit immediately after departure at 12:41 PM local time. Following safety protocols, they alerted air traffic control and landed safely at 1:00 PM, just 19 minutes after departure.
