DUBAI- Emirates Airlines (EK) has come a long way since its humble beginnings in March 1985. From a small fleet consisting of two Boeing 727s, one Boeing 737-300, and one Airbus A300, Emirates has grown to become one of the world’s largest and most prestigious airlines.

With a focus on innovation and excellence, Emirates has continuously expanded its fleet to include some of the most advanced aircraft in the industry.

Humble Start and Rapid Growth

Emirates inaugurated its maiden flights in October 1985 by operating two wet-leased aircraft.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) leased two Emirates planes—a Boeing 737 and an Airbus 300 B4. The inaugural flights departed for Karachi (KHI), Pakistan, and Mumbai (BOM), India.

In July 1987, two years later, Emirates acquired its inaugural owned aircraft—the A6-EKA, an Airbus A310-304. The A6-EKA aircraft of Emirates made its maiden flight from Toulouse (TLS) to Dubai (DXB).

Within a decade of its establishment, Emirates began introducing widebody aircraft such as the Airbus A330 and A340 into its fleet.

Today, Emirates operates a modern and simplified fleet consisting of just two aircraft types:

144 Boeing 777 family aircraft including (777-200, 300, 300ER and 777F)
116 Airbus A380-800

As of April 2024, Emirates holds the title of the largest operator of the Airbus A380 in the world.

Oldest Aircraft in the Emirates Fleet

The oldest aircraft currently in the Emirates fleet is the A6-EBK, a 17-year-old Boeing 777-31H(ER) which was registered in January 2006. This aircraft is based at Dubai Airport and regularly operates flights to destinations such as Hyderabad, Nairobi, and Karachi, reported FlightRadar24.

Following closely behind is Emirates’ oldest Airbus A380, A6-EDF, which was registered just one month after the Boeing 777.

Emirates’ Newest Aircraft

On the other end of the spectrum, Emirates also boasts some of the industry’s newest and most advanced aircraft.

The newest addition to the Emirates fleet is the A6-EFT, a Boeing 777-200 freighter aircraft registered in April 2022 and operated by Emirates SkyCargo.

Additionally, Emirates welcomed its newest passenger aircraft, an Airbus A380-800 registered as A6-EVR, in February 2021. This aircraft was the last Airbus A380 to roll off the production line.

According to a recent schedule (March-April 2024), Emirates deploys the Last ever A380 on flights to the United States, UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

Despite having one of the most recognizable fleets in the world, Emirates understands the importance of staying current and competitive in the ever-evolving aviation industry.

In recent years, Emirates has made significant orders for new-generation aircraft to ensure that its fleet remains at the forefront of aviation technology.

As of late 2023, Emirates has orders for 205 Boeing 777X family aircraft, 35 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, and 65 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This commitment to new aircraft technologies demonstrates Emirates’ dedication to providing its passengers with a modern and comfortable flying experience.
