Similar Incident

A GOL Linhas Aéreas (G3) Boeing 737 MAX 8 was involved in a collision with an airport vehicle during takeoff procedures at Rio de Janeiro/Galeão International Airport (GIG) on February 11.

The incident occurred when flight G31674 was accelerating for departure to Fortaleza at approximately 10:00 PM.

A passenger-recorded video captured the moment of impact, showing the aircraft striking the vehicle on the active runway. The flight crew immediately initiated an aborted takeoff.

Air traffic control recordings confirmed that the captain reported hitting a vehicle positioned on the runway.

The control tower expressed uncertainty regarding the vehicle’s location, questioning whether it was on the main runway or taxiway Charlie Charlie. The flight crew affirmed that the vehicle was indeed on the active runway at the time of impact.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the airport vehicle had received clearance to cross the runway before the aircraft’s takeoff roll. However, the vehicle’s delayed exit contributed to the incident.

Emergency response teams arrived promptly, though passengers disembarked using mobile stairs instead of emergency slides. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew members.

Recent Disruptions at Major Airports

The incident at Orly Airport follows a series of travel disruptions at key European airports in recent weeks.

On March 25, a vehicle struck a railway bridge near Gatwick Airport (LGW), causing significant delays. The impact led to immediate inspections by Network Rail engineers to ensure the bridge’s safety before reopening the affected route.

A National Rail spokesperson advised travelers to report any bridge strikes using the identification plate attached to structures or, in the absence of a plate, contact the police via emergency services. The disruption added to ongoing travel issues affecting UK passengers.

Additionally, Gatwick Airport experienced an evacuation on March 30 after a fire alarm triggered panic among travelers.

Social media reports suggested that a passenger may have opened an emergency exit door to vape, though airport authorities denied this claim. The evacuation concluded by 8:30 a.m., with normal operations resuming shortly afterward.

Meanwhile, Heathrow Airport (LHR) faced a major disruption on March 21 when a fire at the North Hyde Electricity Substation in Hayes, West London, led to power outages.

The fire resulted in flight diversions and affected approximately 100,000 homes in the surrounding area.

Heathrow, Europe’s busiest airport, managed to restore power within hours, but the impact on flight schedules lasted throughout the day.
