Delta Adds Two Island Destinations from New York with 767

ATLANTA– Delta Air Lines (DL) will add Sardinia (OLB) and Malta (MLA) to its network in summer 2026, marking the airline’s first nonstop services to these Mediterranean islands from New York-JFK.

For the first time in its history, Delta (DL) allowed SkyMiles Members and employees to vote on new European destinations. Sardinia (OLB) won the popular vote among members, while Malta (MLA) topped the employee poll. As a result, both destinations secured a spot on Delta’s expanding transatlantic schedule.

Delta Adds Two New Destinations

The decision was driven by Delta’s “Route Race,” an interactive vote between SkyMiles Members and Delta employees. The contest featured Sardinia (OLB), Malta (MLA), and Ibiza (IBZ), with nearly 150,000 participants over a five-day period.

Sardinia captured the members’ vote, while Malta resonated with employees. Instead of choosing one, Delta opted to serve both, highlighting the airline’s commitment to its community of travelers and staff.

This move also expands Delta’s footprint in the Mediterranean, offering new cultural and leisure-focused travel opportunities.

For Sardinia, it means new visibility as a Blue Zone destination, celebrated for longevity, natural beauty, and culinary traditions. For Malta, the service represents its first scheduled nonstop transatlantic link operated by a U.S. airline.

Sardinia: A Blend of Nature, Tradition, and Longevity

Sardinia (OLB) offers more than turquoise waters and rugged cliffs. Recognized globally as one of only five Blue Zones, the island is home to communities known for exceptional longevity.

Its lifestyle, centered on fresh food, active living, and strong social ties, makes it a destination as enriching as it is scenic.

Visitors can explore ancient ruins, dive into coastal coves, and savor traditional cuisine such as handmade pasta and Cannonau wine.

With Delta’s new nonstop link from New York, travelers will soon have easier access to this unique Mediterranean way of life.

Malta: A Historic First for Transatlantic Travel

Malta (MLA), a crossroads of cultures in the central Mediterranean, will welcome its first scheduled nonstop service from the United States with Delta’s new flights. Known for its fortified cities, UNESCO-listed heritage, and vibrant year-round events, Malta offers a blend of history and modern lifestyle.

The route is expected to boost both leisure and business travel while supporting the Malta Tourism Authority’s strategy to attract quality-focused visitors. By linking directly with New York, Malta strengthens its connections with North America and opens new opportunities for cultural and economic exchange.

Service Details and Onboard Experience

Flights to Sardinia begin May 20, 2026, operating four times weekly, while service to Malta starts June 7, 2026, with three weekly flights. Both routes will be operated by Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, departing from New York-JFK.

Travelers can choose from four onboard experiences: Delta One®, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Main Cabin. Delta One® customers will enjoy lie-flat seating, chef-curated meals, Missoni-designed amenities, and Taittinger champagne.

Across all cabins, passengers will have access to Delta Studio entertainment, complimentary Delta Sync Wi-Fi for SkyMiles Members, and dining options crafted with regional inspiration.

For premium travelers, the Delta One Lounge at JFK provides gourmet dining, premium beverages, and a calm pre-flight environment.

Strengthening Delta’s European Network

Delta already serves Rome (FCO), Milan (MXP), Venice (VCE), Naples (NAP), and Catania (CTA), making it the largest U.S. carrier in Italy. By adding Sardinia (OLB) and Malta (MLA), Delta builds on its record transatlantic expansion and reinforces its role as a major connector between the United States and the Mediterranean.

With flights to over 300 destinations worldwide, the addition of these islands underscores Delta’s strategy to combine customer engagement with network growth.
