Similar Incident

In April 2024, the Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport’s (GAU) roof collapsed due to heavy rainfall and severe storm.

Following the harsh weather conditions, the flight operations were suspended. The incident occurred due to heavy water seepage, and it couldn’t withstand the nature’s force and gave up.

Uprooted trees blocked the approach road. Additionally, the roof outlets experienced heavy overflow, leading to water ingress inside the terminal building.

The authorities should inspect the old airport structures at all the airports and carry out maintenance before monsoon. Such incidents could cause major fatal incidents and accidents.
