Similar Incident
In a similar incident earlier in September 2024, a Coast Guard Dhruv helicopter was deployed on a medical evacuation mission when it crashed into the Arabian Sea near Porbandar.
The aircraft had been responding to an emergency on the Indian-flagged motor tanker Hari Leela, located about 45 km from the coast.
Despite its proximity to the coastline, the helicopter had to ditch into the sea after encountering difficulties. This was a precautionary measure taken after the fleet of 16 helicopters, manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), was grounded.
