HONG KONG- Cathay Pacific (CX) inaugurated its first-ever non-stop flights between Hong Kong (HKG) and Munich (MUC) on Monday, June 16, 2025, directly connecting its home hub to the Bavarian capital for the first time in the airline’s history.

The launch marks a significant milestone in the carrier’s European expansion strategy and strengthens Hong Kong’s position as a major international aviation gateway.

Cathay Pacific Munich Service

The new Munich service follows Cathay Pacific’s recent launch of seasonal flights to Rome (FCO) on June 5, 2025, and precedes the airline’s return to Brussels scheduled for August 3.

These additions demonstrate the airline’s commitment to rebuilding and expanding its European footprint following the global aviation recovery.

The Munich launch enables the Cathay Group, including low-cost carrier HK Express (UO), to achieve a significant operational milestone of serving 100 passenger destinations worldwide. This expansion provides customers with enhanced connectivity options and increased travel choices across the group’s combined network.

Cathay Pacific (CX) and HK Express (UO) are adding 18 destinations to their joint passenger network throughout 2025, with additional route announcements planned for later in the year. The aggressive expansion reflects the airlines’ confidence in travel demand recovery and their strategic positioning for future growth.

June 2025 Route Expansion

June has proven particularly active for the Cathay Group’s network development. Cathay Pacific (CX) launched services to both Rome (FCO) and Munich (MUC) during the month, while HK Express (UO) introduced flights to Cheongju (CJJ) and Daegu (TAE) in South Korea.

HK Express (UO) plans to add Miyako (Shimojishima) to its network in the coming week, further diversifying the group’s regional offerings.

This rapid expansion pace demonstrates the airlines’ coordinated approach to market re-entry and their ability to deploy aircraft and resources efficiently across multiple new routes simultaneously.

Importance of the Munich Route

The Bavarian capital offers customers access to diverse cultural attractions, art venues, and innovation centres, while serving as a strategic gateway to broader European destinations through codeshare partnerships.

Lau highlighted how the Munich route reinforces Hong Kong’s status as a leading international aviation hub and premier gateway connecting the Chinese Mainland with global destinations. The new service enables travellers from Munich to connect seamlessly through Hong Kong to the Cathay Group’s extensive Asian network.

Aircraft and Schedule Details

Cathay Pacific (CX) operates the Hong Kong-Munich route using modern Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring fully flat beds in Business class, spacious Premium Economy seating, and comfortable Economy cabins.

The airline schedules 4 weekly flights on the route, operating on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Flight CX301 departs Hong Kong (HKG) at 01:10 local time, arriving in Munich (MUC) at 07:55. The return service, CX300, leaves Munich (MUC) at 13:55, reaching Hong Kong (HKG) at 06:50 the following day. The schedule optimises connections for both business and leisure travellers from both regions.

European Summer Operations

Combined with the planned Brussels service introduction in August, Cathay Pacific (CX) will operate nearly 100 return flights weekly to 12 European destinations during the summer peak season.

The comprehensive European network includes Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Zurich.

This extensive European coverage positions Cathay Pacific (CX) as a major player in Asia-Europe connectivity, offering travellers numerous options for accessing key business and leisure destinations across the continent.

Cargo Operations

Cathay Cargo plans to complement passenger services with 7 weekly freighter flights to and from Europe during summer 2025.
