DALLAS- The Dallas-Fort Worth-based carrier, American Airlines (AA) has announced significant modifications to its Summer 2025 long-haul schedule through updates filed during the January 25, 2025 weekend and is reported by Aeroroutes.
The changes affect multiple international routes and aircraft deployments across its network.
American Airlines International Schedule
The airline launches three new routes:
- Charlotte to Athens operating daily with a Boeing 777-200ER from June 5 to September 1,
- Chicago O’Hare to Madrid with daily Boeing 787-8 service starting March 30, and
- Chicago O’Hare to Naples beginning May 6 with daily 787-8 flights.
Network expansions include Dallas/Fort Worth to London Heathrow increasing from four to five daily flights, with the additional AA154/153 service operated by a Boeing 777-200ER. The route will maintain four daily 777-300ER services alongside the new frequency.
Dallas/Fort Worth gains seasonal service to Venice Marco Polo, operating from June 5 to September 1. The route starts with daily 777-200ER service until August 5, switching to 787-8 operations through September 1.
Schedule adjustments affect Chicago O’Hare’s European services. The Barcelona route extends until October 24, while Dublin operations revised to June 5 through October 5. Paris Charles de Gaulle service shifts to May 5 through September 2, and the planned Venice Marco Polo service faces cancellation.
Aircraft reconfigurations impact multiple routes. Boston to London Heathrow upgrades to 777-300ER service from April 17 to 28. Dallas/Fort Worth to Barcelona transitions between 787-8, 777-200ER, and 787-9 operations throughout the season. The Frankfurt route suspends operations from June 5 to July 4.
Asian route modifications include Dallas/Fort Worth to Tokyo Haneda switching to 787-9 operations from September 3, while Shanghai Pudong maintains daily 787-9 service with a temporary 787-8 deployment from May 5 to June 4.
Changes from MIA and LAX
Los Angeles maintains its dual daily London Heathrow service with a mixed fleet deployment, operating one daily flight each with Boeing 777-200ER and 777-300ER aircraft. The Tokyo Haneda route from Los Angeles transitions to Boeing 787-9 operations on both daily frequencies starting September 3.
Miami’s network undergoes substantial modifications across multiple routes. The Buenos Aires service reconfigures with Boeing 787-8 aircraft replacing the 777-200ER on flight AA907/908 while maintaining a third daily 787-8 service until May 3. London Heathrow service doubles to twice daily using 777-300ER aircraft, with the AA056/057 maintaining 777-300ER operations from May 4 to June 4.
The Miami to Paris Charles de Gaulle route operates only from March 29 to May 4 with daily 787-8 service before suspension. Rome Fiumicino service expands with seasonal daily 777-200ER flights starting June 5, followed by 787-8 operations from October 6 to 24 after a one-month hiatus.
Sao Paulo Guarulhos routes from Miami witnessed aircraft swaps from May 5 to June 4, with AA929 switching to 787-8 and AA995 transitioning to 777-300ER operations. These changes affect only Miami departures, optimizing capacity allocation on these strategic South American routes.
Flight Update from New York and Philadelphia
New York JFK’s Athens service shifts from May 5 through September 1 with daily 777-200ER operations. The Barcelona route upgrades to 777-300ER service from June 4 to August 5. London Heathrow maintains four daily flights with one 777-200ER and three 777-300ER services.
The JFK-Madrid route upgrades to 777-300ER operations from June 5 to September 2, with a service suspension from July 5 to August 5. Rome Fiumicino transitions to 787-9 service from May 5, while Sao Paulo Guarulhos maintains daily 787-9 operations.
Philadelphia expands its European network significantly. Edinburgh service resumes after a five-year hiatus with daily 787-8 flights from May 23 to October 4. Milan Malpensa returns to the network after 16 years with daily 787-8 service starting May 23.
Philadelphia’s existing routes see aircraft adjustments. Amsterdam switches to 787-9 operations from October 6. Barcelona operates 787-9 service from August 5 to October 4. Copenhagen transitions to 787-8 flights from June 5 to October 4, while Dublin uses 787-9 aircraft from August 6 to September 2.
The Philadelphia-Rome route doubles to twice daily from June 5 to October 1, adding a 787-8 service alongside the existing 787-9 flight. Naples service advances to May 5 with daily 787-8 operations, while Nice’s launch delays to May 16 with mixed 787-8 and 787-9 deployment.
Venice Marco Polo service from Philadelphia moves forward to March 29 with daily 787-8 flights. Zurich operations maintain daily service until October 2, upgrading to 787-9 aircraft between July 4 and September 2.
