American Airlines Flight Delayed

On May 15, 2025, just after noon, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) initiated a partial ground stop due to a reported security issue on American Airlines (AA) flight 2484, bound for New York LaGuardia (LGA).

According to View From the Wing, the Boeing 737-800 was isolated away from terminal buildings, surrounded by airport police vehicles and emergency responders.

The incident stemmed from a passenger’s report of overhearing a conversation about a bomb, prompting swift action from authorities.

Airport police boarded the aircraft, and all 180 passengers were evacuated and transported by bus to a secure area.

Officers questioned passengers to determine if anyone had made or overheard threatening remarks.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered the brief ground stop, disrupting operations at DFW, the second-busiest airport in the US. The response underscored the aviation industry’s zero-tolerance approach to potential threats.

Safety Protocols

American Airlines (AA) issued a statement confirming the incident: “A potential security incident was reported on board flight 2484 prior to departure at DFW. Law enforcement responded, inspected the aircraft, and cleared it to depart to LGA.”

The airline emphasized that safety and security are top priorities and thanked law enforcement for their professionalism. Trained K9 units assisted in searching the aircraft, ensuring no credible threat existed.

By 2:00 PM, authorities completed security checks, and passengers were transported to Terminal A by 2:30 PM. The flight, originally scheduled for an earlier departure, took off around 4:30 PM, delayed but cleared for travel.

The incident caused cascading delays, with DFW ranking as the top US airport for delays that day, per FlightAware data.

A security scare at Auckland Airport (AKL) led to the cancellation of Air New Zealand (NZ) flight NZ677, which was scheduled to depart for Dunedin (DUD).

The incident began with a phoned-in bomb threat that prompted immediate evacuation procedures and a full-scale response from security personnel.

The flight, operated by an Airbus A320, was preparing for a 5:40 PM departure when the threat was received.

The aircraft was instructed to return to the gate. Passengers were held onboard initially, then escorted off row by row to maintain a controlled evacuation while police and specialist teams searched the cabin and luggage thoroughly.

Authorities found no evidence of any explosive device. However, airport operations were disrupted for several hours.

Passengers were relocated to a secure terminal area, where they waited as the investigation proceeded.

Some passengers described the experience as stressful, especially due to limited updates and long waits.
