FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) will introduce nonstop flights between Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) beginning February 12, 2026.

This year-round service uses American Eagle’s affiliate PSA Airlines with CRJ-900 aircraft and is intended to boost connections for both leisure travelers and business travelers between Florida’s Treasure Coast and a major hub.

American Airlines Expands Florida Routes

American will operate 1 daily flight in each direction on the route. From Charlotte (CLT), flights depart at 10:00 AM, arriving in Vero Beach (VRB) at 12:10 PM. The return departs VRB at 12:45 PM and lands back at CLT at 2:40 PM local time.

The CRJ-900 used for this service features 12 First Class seats, 12 Main Cabin Extra (extra-legroom economy), and 52 Main Cabin (standard economy) seats.

The CRJ-900 is a twin-turbofan regional jet powered by GE CF34-8C5 / CF34-8C5A1 engines. It cruises at approximately Mach 0.78 to Mach 0.82 (about 515-540 mph / 829-871 km/h) depending on flight phase.

Maximum range is roughly 1,553 nautical miles (≈2,876 km), with takeoff and landing performance suited to regional airports.

Noise and emissions performance of the type: Approach noise is about 92.4 EPNdB, flyover noise ~82.2 EPNdB.

The aircraft has emission margins compared to CAEP6 standards of about 26.6% for NOx, 97.6% for unburned hydrocarbons, etc.

American Airlines’ environmental policy states that it recognizes its flights’ contribution to climate change, noise, biodiversity, and other environmental factors, and aims to mitigate these via sustainable practices.

On the regulatory side, there are no reports of outstanding FAA or DOT approvals delaying this route; schedules and slots appear confirmed via AeroRoutes and other sources.

Market, Pricing, and Competition

Tickets went on sale shortly after the announcement. Fares for the Vero Beach (VRB) – Charlotte (CLT) route in economy vary by booking date.

For example, round-trip economy fares for February 2026 departures are seen as approx US$517 to US$557 depending on the day.

This marks American’s first direct global-network hub connection out of Vero Beach, adding to existing service by Breeze Airways and JetBlue (B6).

Breeze operates multiple Northeast routes and has established an operating base at VRB. JetBlue will commence service from Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK) in December.

Airport director Todd Scher and American’s domestic network planning director (Jordan Pack) both emphasized the route’s expected benefits for local businesses, tourism, and regional connectivity.

Impact, Load Factor, and Additional Considerations

While specific projected load factors for the new route have not been publicly released, American’s recent network expansion efforts suggest regional jets like the CRJ-900 tend to operate at high utilization when linking to major hubs.

Historic data for similar routes indicate load factors in the 70 to 80 percent range in early months, rising toward break-even levels as awareness grows.

There is no publicized special codeshare or international onward scheduling detail tied uniquely to the VRB-CLT link, but because CLT is a global hub for American, connections will be available to international destinations after clearing customs and immigration, where required.

Environmental trade-offs include fuel burn typical of regional jets; the CRJ-900 consumes about 396 gallons (≈1,500 liters) of fuel per hour under standard cruise conditions.

No reports have surfaced indicating the route will have seasonal service changes; as announced, it will run daily throughout the year.
