DALLAS- American Airlines (AA) announced plans to launch a service between Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Golden Triangle Regional Airport (GTR) in Mississippi.

This development marks American’s return to GTR after a 29-year absence, having last served the airport with American Eagle flights to Nashville in 1995, Enilria reported.

American Airlines Dallas to Columbus Flights

The Golden Triangle market currently sees minimal service, with Delta Air Lines (DL) operating two daily flights to Atlanta using CRJ-900 aircraft.

Delta’s operations have maintained a monopoly in the market, generating significant revenue with average round-trip fares reaching $1,079 in September 2024, an increase from $957 the previous year.

Market analysis reveals consistent passenger demand averaging two daily passengers each way.

The point-of-sale distribution shows GTR generating 66% of bookings, while DFW accounts for 34%. Delta maintained 100% market share across all segments in 2023 and 2024.

This route expansion comes amid American Airlines’ transition from Air Wisconsin operations, suggesting greater fleet flexibility than initially anticipated.

The addition of GTR service represents American’s strategic entry into a historically profitable market dominated by a single carrier.

The Golden Triangle Regional Airport serves the Mississippi communities of Columbus, West Point, and Starkville. The route provides these communities with their first direct western connection, complementing the existing southeastern connectivity through Atlanta.
