ALPA India Claims Air India and IndiGo Won’t Hire Each Other’s Pilots

1 dzień temu

NEW DELHI- A major pilots’ group has alleged that two of India’s leading airlines, Air India (AI) and IndiGo (6E), have informally agreed not to hire each other’s pilots.

The group claims this could impact employment fairness in the aviation sector and has sought government intervention.

The Airline Pilots’ Association of India (ALPA India), which represents over 800 pilots, has raised concerns with the Civil Aviation Ministry, urging authorities to ensure a fair hiring process within the industry.

Air India and IndiGo Won’t Hire Each Other’s Pilots

ALPA India, an affiliate of the International Federation of Airline Pilots’ Association (IFALPA), has flagged the issue in a formal complaint to Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu.

The letter expresses concerns over reports suggesting that Air India (AI) and IndiGo (6E) have agreed not to recruit each other’s pilots.

The association argues that if such an arrangement exists, it raises serious legal and ethical concerns by restricting employment opportunities and fair competition.

ALPA India asserts that pilots should have the right to seek better career opportunities without facing undue restrictions imposed by airlines.

When questioned about the alleged hiring agreement, both Air India and IndiGo declined to comment.

However, an IndiGo official dismissed the claims, stating that there is no truth to the allegations.

The absence of a formal response from the airlines has left room for speculation within the aviation sector.

If proven, such an agreement could potentially violate labor laws and competition regulations, prompting regulatory scrutiny.

Growing Demand for Pilots in India

India is one of the fastest growing aviation markets, with more than 1,800 aircraft currently on order.

As airlines expand their fleets to accommodate increasing passenger demand, the need for qualified pilots is expected to rise significantly.

Given this backdrop, ALPA India emphasizes the importance of maintaining a transparent and competitive job market. The group has urged authorities to investigate the alleged hiring restrictions and ensure that pilots have equal employment opportunities.

ALPA India has requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to take appropriate action to safeguard employment fairness in the aviation sector.

The association insists that any hiring policies adopted by airlines must align with constitutional and legal principles.

With the aviation industry poised for significant growth, regulatory oversight will be crucial to maintaining a fair and competitive labor market for pilots in India.
