RIGA- Engine maintenance delays force airBaltic (BT) to cancel 4,670 flights across its network for summer 2025, sending ripples through European aviation.

The disruption stems from Pratt & Whitney’s prolonged engine maintenance schedules, directly impacting airBaltic’s Airbus A220-300 fleet operations.

airBaltic to Cancel 4,670 Flights

The maintenance bottleneck will ground several A220-300 aircraft well into 2025, compelling airBaltic to implement significant network adjustments. The airline’s restructuring affects 40 routes, with 19 facing complete suspension and 21 experiencing reduced frequencies.

This operational downsizing will impact 67,160 passengers who had planned their summer travel through airBaltic’s network.

The Baltic carrier maintains its commitment to regional connectivity despite these setbacks. The airline continues to serve more than 70 destinations across Europe and beyond, preserving essential air links between the Baltic States and major global destinations.

Global Supply Chain Issues

airBaltic confronts unprecedented operational challenges as global supply chain disruptions and maintenance constraints force widespread flight adjustments. The airline implements comprehensive customer support measures to address the impact of these cancellations, offering affected passengers immediate rebooking alternatives and full refund options.

The company establishes multiple support channels for affected travelers. Passengers can now manage their disrupted bookings through airBaltic’s online booking management system, where they can select alternative flights or process refund requests. Additional assistance remains available through the airBaltic Call Center and third-party booking platforms.

Despite these challenges, airBaltic maintains its extensive network operations across 130 routes. The airline continues service from its primary hubs in Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere, along with seasonal operations from Gran Canaria. These routes connect passengers to destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region.

The airline’s hybrid business model combines traditional network carrier services with low-cost operational efficiencies. This approach has established airBaltic as the Baltic region’s dominant carrier and positioned it among Europe’s fastest-growing airlines.

The company’s modern fleet consists of 49 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, managed by over 2,700 aviation professionals.
