Air Senegal Boeing 737 Fails to Take-off and Crashed, injuring 11 People

SENEGAL- Air Senegal (HC) Boeing 737-300 (Classic) aircraft experienced a crash during take-off in Senegal, resulting in injuries to 11 individuals, with four of them sustaining severe injuries.

According to a statement from Dakar’s Blaise Diagne airport, the incident occurred early on Thursday, as Air Senegal flight HC 301, en route to the Malian capital Bamako, veered off the runway.

While the pilot sustained minor injuries, the majority of the 78 passengers onboard escaped unharmed.

Operations at the airport have been suspended, with emergency services mobilized to evacuate passengers, as stated by the airport authorities.

An investigation is underway to ascertain the causes of the crash, which occurred around 0100 GMT.

Neither Boeing nor Transair, the private company that chartered the plane for Air Senegal, have commented on the incident.

Though the exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined, it comes amidst escalating concerns regarding the safety track record of the manufacturer.
