Air India Express Routes
Air India Express executed a significant international network expansion throughout 2024, launching and resuming services across 22 city pairs with 103 weekly flights.
Mumbai emerged as the primary beneficiary of this expansion, securing 28 weekly flights, while Delhi followed with 21 weekly additions.
The airline’s growth strategy unfolded in two distinct phases. The first half of 2024 witnessed the introduction of 14 international city pairs, while the second half contributed eight additional routes. Bangkok joined the carrier’s network as a notable destination, though planned operations to Dhaka were subsequently withdrawn.
The expansion positions Air India Express as a strong competitor in the international aviation sector, with its 22 new city pairs placing it close behind IndiGo Airline’s (6E) 24 route additions.
The airline diversified its fleet capabilities by introducing Airbus A320 aircraft for international operations, marking a strategic shift in its operational approach.
Looking ahead, Air India Express plans to strengthen its Southeast Asian presence with the launch of Phuket services in January 2025. This expansion reflects the airline’s concentrated efforts to enhance its international footprint and capture emerging market opportunities.
The statistics encompass all operational services as recorded on January 1, 2025, representing Air India Express’s most extensive international network expansion to date.

Air India Express Mangaluru to Singapore Flight
In a disappointing development, Air India Express has decided not to launch the Mangaluru (IXE) to Singapore Changi (SIN) flight.
Air India Express unveiled plans to establish a direct air connection between Mangaluru International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport, commencing January 21, 2025. The service could have operated twice weekly under flight numbers IX862 and IX861.
- The outbound flight IX862 was scheduled to depart from Mangaluru at 5:55 AM, reaching Singapore at 1:25 PM local time.
- The return service IX861 would have left Singapore at 2:25 PM, arriving in Mangaluru at 4:55 PM local time.
However, the booking engine does not reflect the route and is dropped by the airline.
