DUBAI- A Dubai (DXB)-bound Air India Express (IX) aircraft executed an emergency landing at Kozhikode International Airport after experiencing critical landing gear complications, today (January 3, 2024).
Flight IX345 encountered mechanical difficulties shortly after its departure, which had been scheduled for 8:15 AM with an anticipated arrival in Dubai at 11:05 AM, OnManorama reported.

The flight crew detected a severe malfunction preventing proper landing gear deployment, prompting immediate safety protocols. The pilot established communication with Karipur airport authorities, triggering an emergency response system across the facility.
Ground teams mobilized emergency services and positioned them strategically around the runway in anticipation of the landing.
The aircraft successfully completed its emergency landing maneuver under heightened safety measures, ensuring the security of all passengers and crew members aboard.
The flight was operated by Boeing 737-800 (737NG) aircraft and is powered by CFM56-7B engines.
Technical teams have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the landing gear malfunction while stranded passengers await further developments at the terminal.
Maintenance crews actively addressed the mechanical issues, though the delay extended beyond an hour.
After proper evaluation, the flight took off again and landed safely in Dubai with over two hours of delay. Such incidents disrupt the travel plans of passengers, however, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Emergency landing is carried out for the safety of the aircraft and its occupants.
However, it’s concerning by looking at the scale of such incidents for AI Express’ Middle East bound flights. Indian Aviation regulator needs to carry out inspections regularly and should maintain strong vigilance over airline maintenance practices.

The Boeing 737-800 aircraft, registered as VT-AYD, operates within the airline’s all-Boeing 737NG fleet specializing in Gulf routes.
A critical incident occurred in October 2024 when Air India Express flight IX613, bound for Sharjah, performed an emergency landing at Tiruchirappalli Airport. The pilot detected a hydraulic system malfunction after takeoff, impacting vital aircraft functions including landing gear, brakes, and flaps.
The most recent incident involved an Air India Express flight from Cochin International Airport to Bahrain Airport in December 2024. The aircraft executed a U-turn after ground crews discovered tire debris on the runway. Airport authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the tire damage.
